Campo Alla Sughera - Achenio Bogheri bianco 2015
Pairing Suggestions
White wine from Bolgheri? Yes! A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino and Chardonnay
Campo Alla Sughera – Achenio Bogheri bianco (87 tsomw points)
In the glass this white one shows an intense straw yellow color with greenish reflections.
On the nose aromas of blossom, mandarin and stonefruit with hints of almond and caramel.
On the palate balanced and solid. The acidity makes it refeshing. Clean in the mouth with light wood notes and a long aftertaste.
Winemaker notes:
Achenio is my attempt to present the drinker with what I consider is “white wine” in its quintessential form: full of flavour, bold of structure and long lasting, yet refined. Achenio comes into this world for the most part in shaded vineyards, avoiding the effects of intense bursts of heat that have an adverse effect on the aromatic expression of white grapes. Certain parts of the blend, the Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, are fermented and aged in oak barriques, white the rest – largely Vermentino – is kept in stainless steel vats. This method produces a distinctively fruity, long-lived wine that is full of flavour, and a revelation in the mouth.
The name, ACHENIO is a type of seed, and refers to the acorn of the sughera, the cork oak from which the estate takes its name.
