Cal Pla - Mas d'en Compote 2015 (90 TSW)
Beautiful white blend with Xarel·lo, Picapoll Blanc and Garnacha Blanca from DOC Priorat region.
Last year I tasted their top red one and also this white one doesn't disappoint me. A wine with an excellent price, quality rate.
The vineyard is 15 years old, on average, oriented southwest on slate soils that produce around 1.5 kg of grapes per vine. The varieties that Mas d'en Compte Blanc includes are: 50% White Grenache, 25% Picapoll Blanc, and 25% Xarello. They are all harvested manually.
Mas d'en Compte Blanc is macerated for one day with its skins, and it ferments and ages for 6 months with its lees in new French oak barrels (70%) and American oak (30%).
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright golden yellow color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of peach, butter and citrus with hints of smoke, herbs and dried apricot.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with medium acidity and nice freshness. In the mouth light creamy and round with boiled fruits, yellow ripe apple, smoke and vanilla. Nice and long finish. Well done!
To pair with smoked dishes, Baked white fish, Poultry, Complex salads, Creamed soups, Cod, White roasted meat and Soupy rice.
