Ca' del Bosco - Franciacorta Cuvée Prestige (89 tsomw points)
During my visit to Veneto we tasted this sparkling wine. A true icon from Lombardy.Â
Ca'del Bosco means 'house in the forest'. It is one of Italy's most distinctive wine companies.Â
The story of Ca'del Bosco is an absolute success story. In the sixties, his mother bought a small hut in the forest with a few vineyards on Mount Erbusco in Franciacorte. In sixty years son Maurizio transformed this tiny house into an impressive state-of-the-art-winery. In 2002, the winery was even declared "Winery of the Year" by the renowned Italian wine guide Gambero Rosso.
Zanella ensured that the Franciacorta area acquired DOCG status in 1995 and was President of the Consorzio per la Tetela del Franciacorta until 2015.
In the DOCG Franciacorta in Lombardy they make sparkling wine just like in Champagne: on the same soil with the same grape varieties. Ca'del Bosco is one of the best producers here. With a nod to the French, their classic Cuvée Prestige is called a blend of the best vintages.
Only the best grapes are used, coming from 134 different vineyards. A blend of the best Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. Just like in Champagne made with a second fermentation in the bottle, followed by a maturation of no less than 28 months.
Tasting notes:
In the glass a bright golden yellow color. Small perlage.Â
On the nose delicate aromas of light tropical fruits, citrus and apricot with well integrated hints of toast and nice minerality.Â
On the palate dry, easy going in the mouth with nice freshness and acidity showing flavours of yellow apple and pear. Long and persistence finish.Â
