Bulichella - Rubino 2017 (89/90+ TSW)
The perfect start of the week this blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Val di Cornia DOC region.
Val di Cornia is a coastal wine region located south of Livorno in central Italy's Tuscany region, in close proximity to the famed Bolgheri DOC. This area was recognized for its quality in 1989 when it was awarded a DOCG classification. Bulichella is located in the The Suvereto subregion north of the Maremma region.
La Bulichella’s history began with the dream of a young Japanese man who, in 1960, decided to travel the world by motorcycle. His name was Hideyuki Miyakawa and after traveling through India and Pakistan, he arrived in Rome where he met Marisa Bressano who, not long after, would become his wife. The Miyakawas followed their love of wine and ecotourism and became the sole owners of Bulichella winery in 1997.
Next to the winery they also run agrotourism catering activity. Their customers can stay in comfortable rooms or apartments, benefit from the breakfast buffet and, on opening days, dine in the restaurant.
About the wine:
This is the entry level red but with a very good quality.
After fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, the wine rests in steel and 2nd and 3rd passage barriques.
My tasting notes:
In the glass an intense ruby red color with purple reflections.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of dark cherries, red berries and flowers with hints of cedar, violets, light tobacco and cinnamon.
On the palate dry, medium(+) bodied with medium acidity and medium(+) ripe tannins. Flavours are a recall of the nose with a warm and balanced round medium(+) aftertaste.
Pairing suggestions: sliced and cured meats, white meats, first courses, soups and broths.
