Bodegas Gordonzello - Kyra Peregrino
Pairing Suggestions
Bodegas Gordonzello - Kyra Peregrino (89/90 TSW)
The Peregrino Kyra is made from the local grape Albarin which is only cultivated by a number of winegrowers (León-Castilla y León, Spain) Did you tried this variety already?
The climate is continental, characterized by cold winters and short, hot summers. The vineyard was planted in three phases: 1996, 1997 and 1998, having achieved a quality and balanced production to date. The main varieties that are most important in Gordonzello are the native ones of the D.O. Tierra de León: Prieto Picudo and Albarín, and to a lesser extent the inks: Tempranillo and Mencía, and the white one: Verdejo.
Bodegas Gordonzello has divided its own vineyard into 8 plots, differentiated by the type of variety and orientation, which guarantees a more progressive maturation and harvest. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 750 m in the municipality of Gordoncillo, within the D.O. Tierra de León, in the southernmost part, which guarantees an optimal quality and maturation of the harvest, due to having more hours of sun and higher temperatures.
Winemaking:
Cold maceration and after pressing alcoholic fermentation takes place and subsequent maturation, in contact with the lees, aging in new French oak barrels for 6 months with battonage.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright straw yellow color.
On the medium(+) nose ripe lime, pineapple and white flowers with hints of figs and oarangezest.
On the palate dry, medium(+) bodied with medium acidity and smooth mouthfeel. Round in the mouth with a recall of the nose and a light toasted medium length finish.
To pair with smoked oysters, wasabi chicken salad, mussels with parsley & garlic butter, cheese, pasta, eggs, fish, appetizers and pasta
