Bodegas Cune - Gran Reserva 2013 (88 TSW)
Are you already in the Christmas mood? What wines will you crack these days?
The Cune Rioja Gran Reserva 2013 is a blend of 85% tempranillo, 10% graciano and 5% mazuelo. After cold maceration the fermentation takes place in open barrels of French oak. The wine ages 24 months in French and American oak barrels. After bottling, the wine ripenes for a maximum of 36 months in the bottle before it's offered for sale.
My notes:
In the glass an intense ruby red color.
On the medium nose aromas of cherries, red berries and plums with hints of vanilla, coconut, chocolate and spicy tobacco.
On the palate medium ++ bodied with a recall of the nose. Medium acidity and ripe tannins. Nice long finish. Excellent PQR.
La Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, or Cvne or Cune, is located in Haro in the Rioja Alta, about 95km south of Bilbao in Spain. The winery was founded in 1879 and is still located today at the same place in the wine-growing region of Barrio de la Estación.
The bodega has many buildings and cellars. Most of these date from the 19th century and are arranged around a central courtyard. The history of the winery can be clearly seen in the different styles of the wine cellar.
The "Eiffel cellar" is famous. It was built by the world-famous French architect Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. Another basement with the name "El Carmen" is the very first concrete basement in Spain.
