Bodega Família Nin Ortiz - Planetes De Nin Blanc 2019
Bodega Família Nin Ortiz - Planetes De Nin Blanc 2019 (91 TSW)
Yesterday we gathered with our tasting team :) and this white one was one of the big surprises.
Highly recommend this 100% Cariñena Blanca, a unique and elegant biodynamic white wine from Priorat.
Planetes de Nin Blanc is a single-variety Cariñena Blanca produced in Porrera, in the DOQ Priorat.
Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz are the people behind this very interesting project. Esther is a winemaker from a family of winegrowers who left her native Penedès to settle in Priorat and work with Daphne Glorian, with whom she created the Clos Erasmus wine, with the 2004 and 2005 vintages being awarded 100 Parker points. Carles is a retired builder and climber who decided to settle in Porrera when he bought the Les Planetes estate. From the very beginning, he decided to cultivate his vines according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture.
This pair produces wines of the highest quality with the philosophy of caring for the environment and respecting nature. They are produced using minimal intervention and fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts.
Planetas de Nin Blanc provides an excellent opportunity to taste a single-variety Cariñena Blanca wine from Priorat. The must without skins ferments in 300-liter Borgogna barrels, used for 2 to 12 years.
In total, it is aged for 8 months in the same barrels without without the lees and gives the opportunity to rediscover this ancient variety just as it is.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a very bright citrus yellow color.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of ripe yellow apple, orange peel and citrus with hints of yeast, herbs, white flowers and hazelnut.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium acity and nice freshness. Complex and balanced with flavours that are a recall of the nose with a medium(+) length finish.
To pair with vegetables, grilled chicken, soupy rice, roasted lamb, white fish in sauce and risottos.
