Bisci - Verdicchio di Matelica 2015 (88 TSW)
The perfect summer wine to pair with seafood or chicken from the Marche – Italy wineregion.
In the glass it shows a bright straw yellow color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of green apple, apricot and lemon peel with hints of white flowers and spices.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with refreshing medium+ acidity showing notes of white peach, green apple and hints of honey melon with light nutty flavours. Medium light bitter finish.
Verdicchio of Matelica is a vine that requires extraordinary attention in the processing because of the sensitivity of their skin, but then gives musts and wines with cloth and enviable body supported by the high acidity and alcoholic richness that allow a remarkable longevity.
Verdicchio di Matelica is often compared to the more famous and more widely available Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi wine produced in the east in the Marche region near the Adriatic Sea. The biggest differences between these two wines are the size and location of the production area. The area around Matelica is much smaller and is further away from the sea. Jesi is close to the Adriatic Sea, creating a milder climate. These differences lead to less bulk wine due to the smaller production area and more complexity in the wine due to the difficult climate, which means that the vines have to work harder to produce full-grown grapes.
The winery covers an area of about 25 hectares, entirely within the territory of Verdicchio di Matelica DOC. The 20 hectares of vineyards are organic farmed (CCPB certified), more than 17 hectares of which are under Verdicchio di Matelica vines and a bit more than 2 hectares are cultivated with red grapes such as Sangiovese and Merlot.
