Bernhard Ott - Rosenberg 2015

Bernhard Ott – Rosenberg 2015 (91 TSW)
This Easter weekend we had great weather in the Netherlands so we had to open a very nice summer wine from Austria.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright straw yellow color.
On the medium+ nose delicicate aromas of white peach, yellow apple, white pepper and citrus with loverly hints of honey, melon and hazelnuts.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with nice balance and elegance showing great acidity, minerality and velvet mouthfeel. Flavours of stone fruit, apricot and pear with herbal spicy tones. The finish is medium+ in length with nice fruity spicyness. Absolutely a very well made wine and one to try within some more years.
Bernhard Ott says of himself: "Ich bin ein Veltliner" and is a household name in Austria: he is even called Mister Veltliner. This has to do with its not insignificant shape but much more with the quality of its grüner veltliners. The company is located in the Lower Rhine in the Wagram, almost against Kamptal and was founded in 1889. From the village of Feuersbrunn, which lies in the plain of the old Danube basin, the "Kellergasse" runs up into the vineyards.
The vineyards are therefore all close to the domain, usually in Wagram and a small part in Kamptal and are situated at an altitude between 200 and 350 meters. The bottom consists mainly of wind-fed loess, varying in depth from 1 to 20 meters and often mixed with gravel. Bernhard leads the company since 1993: he was 21 at the time, but his parents gave him the confidence to make the wines independently and they did not regret it! For example, Bernhard was the first producer from Wagram in the Falstaff to be named "Winzer des Jahres" and his Rosenberg 2015 at Parker received 94-96 points.
The wines are very pure and precise and have become finer and more subtle over the past 15 years. Biodynamic work has been carried out since 2006.
