Happy birthday Riesling!
The Riesling celebrates its bithday on 13 March!
On this day of the year 1435 the #riesling grape variety was mentioned for the first time in a document. To celebrate that day I wanna share this great Riesling from Rheinhessen.
Originally it would be a descendant of the Heunisch grape and a Traminer variety. The grape is known as one of the best varieties. She is very popular in Germany and Alsace in particular.
This grape is not ripe until late, usually at the end of September or the beginning of October and then has a golden yellow color. The riesling is suitable for the production of dry and elegant wines. However, its world fame is due to the sweet wines that this grape variety can produce.
The Riesling grape can produce wines of very great class that have a long shelf life. The vines stand for these high quality wines often planted on steep slopes.
At the beginning of the 20th century the Riesling wines from the Rheingau and Moselle were often more expensive than the most famous wines from the Bordeaux. In addition to Germany and Alsace, the Riesling is also planted in Moravia, Austria, Hungary, Northern Italy, Luxembourg, United States and Australia.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright golden yellow color with green reflections.
On the medium+ nose aromas of green apple, peach and apricot with a light hint of honey and flowers.
On the palate dry, medium-bodied with high acidity, crisp with a little sweetness showing round flavours of peach, apricot and light vanilla and minderality. Will only get better.
