Aurelio Settimo - Barolo Rocche Dell' Annunziata 2012 (92 TSW)
More then one year ago I tried their 2009 vintage. Now the 2012 to give a try. A very nice vintage for them.
Azienda Aurelio Settimo have 7 ha. of vineyards in the commune of La Morra.
5.67ha of Settimo's vineyards are planted with Nebbiolo – 3.42ha in the especially fine cru of Rocche Dell'Annunziata, which with its altitude, sheltered south/south-west facing position and rich clayey-calcerous soil produces a particularly soft, fragrant and full-bodied Barolo.
About the wine:
The traditional method followed by Settimo means fairly lengthy fermentation on the skins, followed by a year in concrete and 24 months maturing in big (25-35 hectolitre) untoasted 10-15 year old French oak casks.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark garnet red color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of ripe cherries, plums and dark forest fruits with hints of spices, violets, leather and sweet tobacco.
On the palate dry, medium++ bodied with medium+ acidity and nicely integrated medium tannins. Concentrated and balanced with flavours of dark fruit, cedar, chocolate, cigar and tar and medium+ length finish.
