Argiano - Brunello di Montalcino 2012

Argiano - Brunello di Montalcino 2012 (91 TSW)
This wine needs good aeration. I used The Zalto Decanter and it took about three hours for opening.
The origins of the Argiano winery date back to the late 16th century, when the noble Pecci family from Siena built the splendid Villa di Argiano in the southwest of Montalcino.
In 1992 the historic property was taken over by Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano. With the aim of producing an extremely high-quality Brunello di Montalcino in mind, the businesswoman chose the famous Tuscan wine expert Giacomo Tachis as her oenologist.
The proud Brunello of Argiano was joined in the course of time by the Supertuscan Solengo - still a top product in its class today - and the Sangiovese Suolo, which also received many awards. In 2004, Hans Vinding-Diers replaced Tachis. Since the change of staff, the farm has been organically cultivated and modern winemaking techniques have been used. At the beginning of 2013, the farm passed into the ownership of one.
In recent years, the winery has experienced good times. While the ancient cellars are still used today for the storage of noble wines during the development phase, the wine-making facilities are located in a cellar equipped with great technology.
About the wine:
- Soil: Marl, ancient clay with high-level of limestone. About 51 hectares of vineyards. Organic cultivation.
- Vinification: Spontaneous fermentation for about 2 weeks in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. Maceration to extract color and mostly the strong aromatic profile. Malolactic fermentation in concrete tanks.
- Aging for about 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels of different capacity (10/15/30/50 Hl). Long aging in bottle.
My notes:
In the glass a deep dark ruby red color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of dark cherries, blackberries and plums with hints of vanilla, mint, spices, mushrooms and cedar.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with medium (still present) tannins and medium acidity. Balance and elegant with a long lingering finish. 3/5 more years this one will be rocking.
