Antinori / La Braccesca Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2015 (89 TSW)
Two weeks ago I reviewed another wine from La Braccesca winery. Their Cortnona Syrah. In the Montepulciano region they produce this Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
Located few kilometers from Montepulciano, where southeastern Tuscany borders Umbria and Lazio, La Braccesca Estate is immersed in a pristine environment greatly loved and admired by travelers from all over the world. Montepulciano is the land of renowned "Vino Nobile", a wine appreciated already centuries ago by the Medici family. In the early 1990s, the Marchesi Antinori brought their experience, respect for tradition and capacity for innovation to this land of history and culture.
About the wine:
The wine is made from 90% Prugnolo Gentile (the local name for Sangiovese) supplemented with 10% Merlot.
The Sangiovese grapes underwent a fermentation aimed at conservation of the aromas and freshness of the fruit.
After approximately ten days of maceration on the skins during the fermentation, the wine went into large oak casks where it went through a complete malolactic fermentation and began an aging period which lasted twelve months.
After bottling, which took place in the spring of 2017, the wine was given an additional twelve months period of aging before commercial release.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep ruby red color.
On the medium(+) aromas of red cherries, raspberries and vanilla with hints of violets, herbs and young leather.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium acidity and tannins. Flavours of red fruit, herbs, licorice cedar and tobacco with medium(+) light spicy finish.
