Anselma Giacomo - Vignarionda Barolo Riserva 2009
Pairing Suggestions
Anselma Giacomo - Vignarionda Barolo Riserva 2009 (92 TSW)
Another wine from the virtual tasting this Nebbiolo from "VignaRionda" from Serralunga d’Alba with the vines at 350 m above sea level.
The soil is a particular geological formation in the Miocene Helvetian age, assuming a composition rich in marly limestone deposits, greyish sandstones, Lequio and residues
minerals. Furthermore, the Vigna Rionda is well sheltered from the winds and has an excellent microclimate for the cultivation of the vine.
Traditional vinification and aging with cap fermentation, floating, with an average duration of about 18 -22 days in concrete tanks, to one variable temperature between 20 and 28 ° C and with frequent pumping over to optimize the extraction of polyphenolic substances. Aged for 5 years in barrels of 30 - 42 hl Slavonian oak.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a garnet red color with light brick red edges.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of dark cherries, dried roses and plums with hints of raisins, cedar and liquorice.
On the palate dry, medium(+) bodied with medium acidity and medium(+) tannins. Flavours are a recall of the nose with a medium(+) finish with light bitterness and spices in the finish.
The winery:
The estate Anselma Giacomo was founded in the early twentieth century and since then the tradition in winemaking has been maintained. The winery is currently managed by the son of Giaculin Anselma, Franco, and his wife Maria. The passion and knowledge in traditional winemaking was handed down from generation to generation. The Anselma family owns vineyards in the area of Serralunga d'Alba, one of the most prestigious territory in the Langhe where the soil is calcareous clay and where the mild climate is intertwined with the area and has a positively influence on the quality of the grapes.
