Nino Negri - 5 Stelle Sfursat 2010 (92 TSW)
100% Nebbiolo from Valtellina – Lombardia.
Wine and friends. Yesterday we were invited by @andrewinereviews and drank this beautiful wine. Did you ever taste this one? Sfursat is the local process for drying the grapes and vinifying dry; so Amarone style. In reality, this is a mix of Amarone and a great Barolo because the grape in duty is the Nebbiolo.
Nino Negri’s very famous flagship wine is made from a selection of the best grapes and only in the best years: 100% Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca) grapes, picked by hand in the most acclaimed parcels of Valtellina Superiore. After natural drying for 3 months they are vinified on their skins, with long maceration. Ageing for 18 months in new French oak barriques only is followed by further ageing in the bottle for another 6 months.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright garnet red color.
On the medium++ nose intense aromas of ripe dark cherries, earth and coffee with nicely mixed notes of tobacco, herbs and tobacco.
On the palate dry, full-bodied with medium acidity and tannins. Very concentrated flavours of candied dark fruit, vanilla and spices. High alcohol and a long lingering finish. Powerhouse with a velvet mouthfeel.
