Bodegas Vegalfaro - Rebel.lia Blanco 2017
Pairing Suggestions
Bodegas Vegalfaro - Rebel.lia Blanco (86 TSW)
A very nice summerwine from the West side of Valencia.
My notes:
In the glass a bright yellow greenish color.
On the medium nose aromas of tropical fruit, apple and melon with hints of nuts, white flowers and lemon.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with medium acidity and light waxy mouthfeel (chardonnay) showing flavours of white peach, grapefruit and cream.
Pairing with pork, rich fish (salmon, tuna etc), shellfish, vegetarian meals and poultry.
In 1999 Andrés Valiente decided to build Bodegas Vegalfaro to bottle his own wines, together with his son Rodolfo, technical director of Bodegas Vegalfaro. Already in February 2011, the winery received the Pago qualification, which is considered to be the highest ranking of a vineyard in Spain and from which wines with special properties and qualities are obtained. This is a terroir reference that is comparable to that in other European countries such as Chateau, Cru, Domaine and Clos in France, Castello in Italy and Quinta in Portugal.
This Rebel.lia is made from Chardonnay (50%) and Sauvignon Blanc (50%) grapes from the vineyards "Finca Casa Alfaro" and "Pasamonte", each with very different soil characteristics; the first is clayey marl and the second has mainly calcareous soils. The principle of Guyot pruning with green harvest is to limit the yields and to improve the ripening and flavor concentration. The grapes are harvested in the first week of September when they have reached their optimum maturity. They are subjected to a pre-softening at cold temperatures with only the free juice intended for low temperature fermentation; the Chardonnay grapes mature in used crianza French oak barrels, using manual batonnage.
