Nyetimber - Classic Cuvée MV. (88 TSW)
Let's celebrate the weekend with this well made bubble from the UK.
Mabye you know about the high quality of the English sparkling wines nowadays? Many French Champagne wines lost various blind tastings with their English competitors. And that quality only increases. However, just like in the Netherlands, production numbers are very limited.
Nyetimber was the first English winery to produce a sparkling wine from the three classic grape varieties from Champagne: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. They also have only one mission for 30 years. To make the best English sparkling wine, one that can compete with the very best in the world. Will they succeed?
The winery has a rich history, which began in 1086 when the estate was mentioned in the Domesday Book. Only 900 years later, in 1988, the first vines were planted by an American couple. Today the Dutch owner Eric Heerema is the face of the winery, he took over in 2006. In the wine cellar he is assisted by the winemakers Cherie Spriggs and Brad Greatrix. Cherie is the main winemaker and in 2018 won the title "Sparkling Winemaker of the Year 2018" as the first woman and the first winemaker outside of Champagne. This also shows the quality of this winery and their sparkling wines.
About this bubble:
MV stands for Multi Vintage so just like No Vintage the new young wine will be assembled with other vintages. Second fermentation on the bottle just like in Champagne.
In the glass a bright lemon/silver color with fine bubbles.
On the medium+ nose aromas of apple, nectarine and citrus with nice hints of toast and white flowers.
On the palate dry, elegant, high acidity balanced by the residual sugar showing flavours of peach, orange peel, lime and gooseberry hints. Light creamy but with nice freshness. Mounthfilling, layered. Nice bitterness in the aftertaste.
