Vall Llach - Idus Priorat 2014
Pairing Suggestions
Vall Llach – Idus Priorat 2014 (90 TSW)
Blend of 70% Carinena, 30% Garnacha from up to 110 year old vines.
14 months in French oak barrels - 15.5% alcohol.
First decanter – still very young – So I used the Vspin @openyourwine
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark red color with garnet edges.
On the medium+ nose ripe dark cherries, plums and blackberries with well integrated hints of spices, violets, tooast and herbs.
On the palate dry, full-bodied, concentrated with dark druits, cassis, ripe tannins and medium+ acidity. Nice and persistence aftertaste. Will only get better within the years.
About the winery:
Ancient vineyards from Porrera define this unique, authentic priory character of the Vall Llach wines, created by the gifted hand of cellarer Saluz Alvarez, who grew up in Porrera, so to speak, with the vineyards and no-one understands their language. Here, Celler Vall Llach counts on the enthusiastic collaboration with local wine growers, who have been cultivating the ancient, Trossos, steep vineyard plots with traditional grape varieties for decades. The selected vineyards with more than 110 years old vines are located in Porrera and Torroja, the warm Licorella slate soil characterize the character of the wines as the gifted hand of Saluz Alvarez.
A generous and rich vintage with moderate sweetness and wonderful acidity. This is a noble and great vintage due to the absence of extreme drought. Wines from the controversial 2014 vintage are some of the best ever produced in recent years.
