Casarena - 505 Vineyards Malbec 2017 (86 TSW)
Today the entry level red of @bodegacasarena and distributed in Holland by Wijnkoperij De Gouden Ton @wijnkoperijdegoudenton
Don’t expect an enormous complex wine but it’s perfect to kick of easy #winemonday
We paired it with homemade lasagne but it’s also perfect with beef, chilli con carne, pasta and fajitas.
Grapes are gently destemmed and then undergo cold maceration for 4 days. The must is fermented at low temperatures for a slow gradual fermentation. The juice undergoes extensive cap management during the first 8 days of cold maceration and fermentation to ensure a soft, supple mouthfeel. Fermentation is finished with soft gentle moistening of the cap over the remaining 6 days of fermentation.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright ruby red color with violet reflections.
On the medium nose aromas of dark cherries, plums with hints of spices and vanilla.
On the palate medium bodied with high acidity and young but not disturbing tannins. Soft and round mouthfeel with a recall of the nose. Medium finish and ready to drink.
About the winery:
At only 20 minutes from the City of Mendoza, this viticulture project began in 2007 after the full restoration of a century-old winery that still preserves its façade. It is now exclusively focused on the making of premium wines.
Casarena Winery and Vineyards is a viticulture project that honors the rich tradition of Agrelo and Perdriel, in Luján de Cuyo, two of the best terroirs in Mendoza. For this reason, the preservation of the plants that are the origin of the viticulture industry in Mendoza is their main concern. At 945 meters (3100,39 ft) above sea level in the High Valley of the Mendoza River, these superb designations are home to some of the oldest and most precious vineyards in the province.
Casarena is located in the heart of Perdriel, in the building of a century-old winery, built in 1937, fully renovated for this project.
