Costa Lazaridi - Amethystos Red 2015
Pairing Suggestions
Costa Lazaridi – Amethystos Red 2015 (88 TSW)
Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 70%, Merlot 20%, Agiorgitiko 10%
In the glass a bright dark red and purple color with purple edges.
On the medium+ nose aromas of ripe plums, cherry compote, dark berries with hints of vanilla and cacao.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with nice acidity and well integrated tannins showing flavours of dark fruit, black pepper, herbs and chocolate. Very nice red I paired with a meat dish in Greek restaurant.
Loves all red meats but is especially fond of lamb chops or oven baked leg of lamb. A joy with a red sauce beef casserole or soft mature cheeses like brie or camembert.
About the winery:
In 1979 Costas Lazaridis, “infected” by the … wine bug in Germany, where he spends a lot of time for the family marble business, establishes in Xiropotamos, on the slopes of mount Falakro, around his house, the first modern linear vineyard in Drama.
In 1986 he builds the only, at the time, modern winery in the region. The building, which still stands, is not in use any more but there plans to turn it into a museum to mark the beginnings of a successful story.
Innovation and respect for nature are characteristic of every undertaking of Domaine Costa Lazaridi since the beginning. From the varietal composition of the first vineyards, setting the basis of the rebirth of vine cultivation in the region, to the equipment of the winery, which is always at the technological forefront, or the character of the wines which follows the particularities of each plot or vintage.
