Sumarroca - Núria Claverol Homenatge (90 TSW)
My tasting notes:
Pale yellow, showing fine bubbles and a nice, persistent mousse.
The Spanish bubble had complex flavors of white flowers, apricot with nice underlayed aromas of brioche, yeast and light butter tones.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with great round mouthfeel and medium+ acidity, balanced, light creamy and nice long aftertaste. One of the best cava’s I tasted which can compete with very good Champagne.
This cava is very special. It is named after the wife of the founder of the winery, Carles Sumarroca. The cava comes from a plot of Xarel lo selected from among all we have of this variety. The selection has been made according to criteria of high quality and personality. The design of the bottle, inspired by ancient Greek amphoras, won an award given by Sumarroca and Adi-Fad in 2004.
About the vineyard:
Place located in the upper part of the Sumarroca farm, in the municipality of Piera, very influenced by the Bosc de l'Àliga and its ravine, which creates a stream of air cooled by the forest. It is a vineyard facing east, which, together with the effect of the forest, causes the afternoon sun to go out early and not overheat the vineyard. The terrain is calcareous, with a high percentage of gravels and fossils in depth that confer a great personality to the wines.
Grapes harvested by hand and transported quickly to the winery to perform a soft pressing without previous felling to extract only the first fraction, after reducing the temperature to 10 ºC to avoid oxidations. Static and natural racking for 24 hours. Fermentation in stainless steel at 16ºC for 20 days. Gran Reserva = 2nd fermentation.
