Eugenio Collavini Viticoltori – Il Grigio Spumante Brut (87 TSW)
Grapes: Chardonnay and Pinot Gris / Charmat Method
In the Northeast of Italy there is a relatively small wine growing region, Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Internationally undervalued but the mild climate is ideal for viticulture. Eugenio Collavini started his wine business here in 1896. His grandson Manlio introduced Il Grigio in 1971. The results are very good! Eugenio Collavini Viticoltori Il Grigio Spumante Brut is a wonderful accessible Spumante.
We tasted this spumante during the Christmas holiday with family as starter of the dinner. Don’t expect a complex Champagne but a nice well made easy sparkling which works great as aperitif or with a nice salad.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright straw yellow color. The bubble is medium+ with soft mousse.
On the nose medium aromas of pear, yellow apple, flowers, citrus and honey.
On the palate dry, soft in the mouth, medium acidity with a recall of the nose with a light almond, citrus finish.
