Cantina Rauscedo - Ribolla Gialla Extra Dry (86 tsomw points)
A nice alternative for Champagne and Cava for a good value?
You can find it on www.wijnmarkt.be
Since 1951 the community of Rauscedo has been united in a cooperative. Here they work together to harvest all the grapes and process them into beautiful, traditional wines. This is a vineyard where the wines actually earn a bio label but where they often choose not to pay the connection costs so that as much as possible returns go back to the winegrowers within the cooperative.
Friuli is not only made of lush plains, Alps and coast: Rauscedo is located in the low Friuli floodplain, outlined by the course of the rivers Tagliamento, Meduna and Cellina. The "clap" (stone in Friulian), i.e. the mothertongue of local people, is the symbol of an area characterised by an ideal microclimate for wine-growing. Not only land but also air: pure air, which blends the mountain breeze and the mild airstreams coming from the sea.
Processing method: gentle, soft maceration of the grapes, soft pressing and fermentation at controlled temperature. Refermentation obtained with the Martinotti method and slow sparkling process at 12°C.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a light ctrus colot with green reflections.
Nice fine perlage and nose of white flowers, green apples and some light nutty hints.
On the palate dry, medium-bodied, balanced and fresh with nice acidity. Not a complex bubble but a great sparkling sipper for a day of joy.
