Capezzana - Villa di Capezzana 10 Years Carmignano DOCG 2008 (90 tsomw points)
In recent years the estate has been releasing small parcels of mature wine, wines that have rested in Capezzana's stone cellars for ten years. For an estate that is famed for the longevity of its wine, this is a welcome offering!
They are well known because of their very well aging. It's not that long ago that Jancis Robinson tasted of Villa di Capezzana going back to 1931, commenting that: "This was a truly inspiring range with the 1931 (yes, 1931) in great condition." So this is not vintage1931 but the 2008.
A blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks, malolactic fermentation in French oak.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep ruby red color with purple reflections.
On the nose delicate aromas of dark cherries and plum with well integrated hints of balsamico, eucalyptus, licorice and tobacco with light vanilla.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied, soft and round in the mouth with dark brooding cherries, tobacco, licorice and forest floor. Very nice and long aftertaste. Classic Super Tuscan.
