Pinot Grigio Pénoner 2016
Kurtatsch - Pinot Grigio Pénoner 2016 (89 tsomw points)
Viva Sud Tirol. This is a very nice mountain wine
About the terroir:
The spectacularly located district of Penon, with altitudes ranging between 500 and 700 meters, is characterized by cooling nighttime katabatic winds. These winds cause substantial temperature differences between day and night, which together with the steep inclination of the vineyards yield a distinctive Pinot Grigio with an exceedingly lively acidity structure. The chalky gravel soils found here, which have a low capacity for holding water.
About the wine:
10% of the grape juice of this wine is fermented in small oak barrels. The remainder on stainless steel. This wine has a low yield per hectare. Only the very best grapes from the best area are used.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a medium+ citrus yellow color with green reflections.
On the nose delicate aroma of nectarine, blossom, mandarins, pear and spicy smoke.
On the palate dry, medium+ intensity with soft round mouthfeel and good body and complexity. Showing flavours of pear, melon, nectarine and passion fruit with a long light salty finish. Very nice and well made Pinot Grigio.
