Quintessence Rouge 2016
Chateau Pesquie - Quintessence Rouge 2016 (89 tsomw points)
Blend of Grenache and Syrah from the South East of France.
This wine, made from Syrah (80%) and Grenache (20%), is made only in the best years and comes from terraced vineyards on southern slopes, located in the northern part of the appellation. The vines are on average more than 50 years old. The wine stays 12 months in wooden barrels (50% new French oak and 50% is one to two years old). The Quintessence is (even) fuller and more intense than the Terrasses Rouge.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep violet red color.
On the nose intense aromas of raspberries, plums and red berries with nicely gathered sniffs of cedar, herbs, leather and pepper.
The palate is dry, medium+ bodied with nice acidity and medium+ tannins showing flavours of black ripe cherries, dried plums, herbs and leather. Nice long and persistence finish. Very well made red blend from France. Good value.
