Domaine des Tourelles – Blanc 2014 (87 tsomw points)
White wine from Lebanon.
Blend of Viognier (65%), Chardonnay (20%), Obeidi (10%) and Muscat d’Alexandrie (5%) The Domaine des Tourelles winery was established in 1868 and was the first commercial winery in Lebanon. Soon the company flourished and there was a lot of demand for the products. The good reputation grew and soon the company won gold, silver and bronze medals in several prestigious international wine contests. Today, Domaine des Tourelles is classified as the most seductive winery in Lebanon by the Financial Times.
The winery was built in 1868 with stone walls and wooden ceilings, exactly according to traditional Lebanese architecture. The company has expanded over the years, until the last change in the twentieth century (red bricks on the roof) and also the final form to this day. The concrete barrels (very rare in Lebanese wineries) provide the best biological conditions for a natural process. This ensures that the wine retains its authentic taste of the Lebanese 'terroir'. My notes:
In the glass a golden yellow color.
On the nose delicate aromas of apricot, pineapple and peach with hints of flowers, herbs and jasmine.
On the palate medium-full bodied with medium acidity with a little sweetness. It shows nice freshness with peach, pineapple and nectarines in a little waxxy style.Very nice light almond finish.
