Weingut Danner – Pinot Noir Typ 3 Liebe 2011 (88 tsomw points)
Another nice natural wine from Baden. After tasting their very likeable Exot typ 2 rosé I was very curious about their Pinot Noir.
Winemaker Alexander Danner cultivates a 4-hectare growing area in the Danner vineyard with granitic soils. His wines are described by Stuart Pigott as extremely mineral, straightforward, fresh and lively. The annual production is 24.000 bottles with an average yield of 45 hl / ha. Slow Food advocate Alexander Danner gives himself and his wines time. Leached soils can regenerate and the vines strengthen their immune system thanks to numerous microorganisms.
Winery Danner impresses the wine world with strong collections. Basically, a distinction is made between three types of wine: Type 1 wines - fruity and of mineral lightness - are aged in stainless steel tanks. Type 2 wines - full and therefore ideal food companions - ferment in large oak barrels. Type 3 wines (this wine) - a "must have" for the sensual wine pleasure - mature in small oak barrels, the barrique.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a garnet red color.
In the nose complex aromas of cherries and red berries with hints of barrique, tobacco and herbs.
On the palate dry, balanced, round with enough freshness. Concentrated flavours of cherries and berries with a long aftertaste.
