Borgo Stajnbech - Pinot Grigio 2017
During my Stay in Veneto we tried this lovely Pinot Grigio and paired it with Salmon.
About the winery
Borgo Stajnbech is located in the idyllic village of Belfiore di Pramaggiore. Not far from the Venice Lagoon, near the hills of Friuli, lies the small wine area Lison Pramaggiore. Lison is one of the most exciting wineregions in Italy, with characteristic wines from grape varieties such as lison (also called tai or Friulano), Merlot, Pinot Grigio, Refosco dal peduncolo rosso and Sauvignon.
Passion for wine and respect for the history of the area are deeply rooted with owners Adriana Marinatto and her husband Giuliano Valent. Together they grow thirteen hectares of lime- and clay-rich vineyards, an ideal soil for the characteristic wines from this region. Giuliano is the winemaker of the house and learned the profession of his father. As Giuliano assured us: 'I was born in the bottle'. The densely planted vineyards with their calcareous clay soil guarantee low yields and aromatic richness. By harvesting relatively early, the elegance and freshness in this Pinot Grigio is guaranteed. Because the wine ripens in steel cuves for several months, it retains all the fruity elements of the freshly picked grapes.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright straw yellow color.
On the nose delicate aromas of pear, apple, apricot and some melon.
On the palate medium-bodied, medium acidity, nicely balanced with rich flavours of apricot, green apple and lychee. Very nice and fresh Pinot Grigio with nice length and sublte spices.
