Roberto Sarotto - Puro Chardonnay 2015

Roberto Sarotto – Puro Chardonnay 2015 (88 tsomw points)
100 % Chardonnay from Piedmont region. Not a typical variety for this region.
The Sarotto winery is a centuries-old family business. Already in the beginning of the 18th century, Guiseppe Sarotto settled down in the small town of Neviglie, close to the world-famous Alba. In the first years, the Sarotto's focused entirely on the production of wine from the dolcetto grape, which was exported to England in large barrels. The war and the devastating phyloxera pest caused crisis in production and exports, but the Sarottos persisted. From the 1950s, new vineyards and grape varieties were planted and the cellars underwent a thorough renovation. The Sarottos attach great importance to their long wine-growing past. Innovation is important to continue growing, but always with respect for the age-old traditions. (@vivino)
Although the vines for the Puro were only planted 20 years ago, Roberto Sarotto knows exactly what he needs to do to get the best out of the Chardonnay. For this wine he had the grapes fermented in American oak for no less than 8 months. As a result, the wood tones are completely integrated in the juicy fruit.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright golden yellow color.
On the nose intense aromas of peach, pear and apricot with hints of vanilla, butter and honey.
On the palate medium/full-bodied with light creamy mouthfeel and nice freshness showing flavours of citrus fruit, caramel and vanilla. The finish is long with fruit and light pepper.
