Ca’d’Or – Franciacorta Saten (87 tsomw points)
Ok my winefriends. Tomorrow I am heading up to Alentejo for 4 days. Visiting some great wineries and chilling with some nice wines. To get some more in the vacation mood we plopped this lovely sparkling wine from Franciacorta. To the south of Lago d'Iseo, in the province of Brescia, you will find the Franciacorta wine region. Here one of the best quality spumante from Italy is made. The production process is based on the metodo classico, which is one to one comparable to the production process of the much better known French champagne. The unique location, south of the Iseo lake surrounded by mountains, provides a particularly favorable climate for the grapes.
This sparking with 100% Chardonnay has been for seven months for the first fermentation in small stainless steel tanks then for 30 months rest, matures and ages re-fermentation in the bottle with selected yeasts, in the darkness and silence of the cellar. The bottle design is like always outstanding.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright straw yellow color. The bubbles are very fine and elegant.
On the nose aromas of apple, yeast and crusted bread with hints of hazelnuts and dried fruits.
On the palate nice acidity and freshness, well balanced and persistent with nice long aftertaste.
