Pairing Suggestions
Poggio Al Tesoro - Bolgheri Superiore Sondraia 2012 (89 tsomw points)
Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Poggio al Tesoro, which literally means “hill of treasure,” was founded by Marilisa Allegrini and her brother Walter. The estate’s name refers to the incredible potential of its geographic location and exceptional terroir.
Tuscany is already well known for its stunning landscape and outstanding terroirs, but the Bolgheri area is in a class unto itself. They say that Poggio al Tesoro’s vines are located in the region’s sunniest spot. In addition, the estate enjoys a steady breeze blowing off the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea and is protected from changes in climate by the hills of Castagneto Carducci village.
Listed in 2008 in the top 100 op Wine Spectator. A very good wine with an excellent price, quality.
My tasting notes:
This Bolgheri has a dark and intense ruby red color.
On the nose it shows delicated aromas of forest fruit, ripe plums and cherries with well integrated hints of pepper, leather and earth.
On the palate full-bodied, dry with round mouthfeel and perfect balance. The wine is concentrated but with enough freshness. Tannins are still powerful but well integrated. You taste black currants, cherries, barrique and green pepper. Long and persistence aftertaste.
