Langenlois Grüner Veltliner 2017

Crisp white
Grüner Veltliner
Austria - Kamptal

This small and new winery is located in the heart of Kamptal in Zöbing. With his foundation Georg Leindl fulfilled a lifelong dream. During his 20 years as an oenologist in research, teaching and consulting, he followed his dream to vinify his own wines, which he put into practice in 2013. The vineyards of the winery are located in Kamptal, accordingly, the wines are characterized by the terroir of the locations. The soils give the wines their minerality and freshness, the microclimate with its alternation between hot days and cool nights brings the typical fruit into the wines. Weingut Leindl Langenlois Grüner Veltliner 2017 (86 tsomw points)

In the glass a bright citrus color with greenish reflections.
On the nose pleasant aromas of apple, pear and some hints of fresh grass on a mineral background.
On the palate well balanced and fruity showing apple, lime and flint minerality with very light residual sweetness. Very nice companion for hot summer nights and asian meals.

Winemaker notes:

Description: The classic out of our Grüner Veltliners from the famous wine-growing region of Langenlois. He combines fruit and freshness with a pleasant body. Fits ideal to a wide range of dishes.

Serving: Light meat and fish.

The Vintage 2017

First of all, the wine year 2017 gave us some sleepless nights, as we were struggling with the danger of late frosts. Due to the relatively early budding the late frost was favored, fortunately we were spared the frost. The summer months brought with it a heat and a dry spell like never before. Especially the young vines suffered from the drought, which made some irrigation passages necessary to ensure the survival of the young vines. Even the old deep-rooted vines suffered from the drought and it was not clear for sure how the drought affected the quality of the grapes. In August, however, came the long-awaited rain of the wine year 2017 rescued. In the fall we harvested healthy and fully ripe grapes, which laid the foundation for a great vintage.
