Tormaresco - Calafuria Salento 2017
Pairing Suggestions
Really surprised by this 100% Negroamaro rosé wine from Puglia.
Tormaresco - Magnum Calafuria Salento 2017 (89 tsomw points)
In the glass a copper, salmon color.
On the nose delicate aromas of peach, raspberries, citrus and strawberries with hints of roses.
On the palate soft in the mouth, dry, light bodied with nice freshness and acidity showing herbs, red fruits and grapefruit with savory and mineral notes.
Top wine for summer days but also in winter
Winemaker notes:
VINTAGE 2017
2017 was, in general, a dry vintage in all of Italy, but the viticulture of the Puglia region is well prepared for and habituated to confronting hot years and obtaining nonetheless good results. The growing season, more than anything else, was largely conditioned by the “Tramontana”, the north wind, which maintains temperatures at relatively fresh levels and above all, favors temperature swings from daytime heat to evening and nighttime coolness. The cultivation practices, the balance between vegetation and grapes in the vineyards, and the breezy climate all assisted, even in a generally hot year such as 2017, in the development of a fresh and elegant aromatic profile in the wines. The Negroamaro crop for the production of Calafuria was harvested during the last days of the month of August, seven days earlier than normal seasonal averages.
PRODUCTION
The grapes were hand-picked, delicately destemmed, and given a soft pressing. The must went into stainless steel fermenting tanks at a temperature of 50° Fahrenheit (10° centigrade) in order to obtain a natural static settling of the impurities. The fermentation then began at a low temperature, 61° Fahrenheit (16° centigrade), in order to maintain the primary aromas of the grapes. The 2017 Calafuria was given a brief aging period in stainless steel and a further four months in bottle before commercial release.
ALCOHOL 12% vol.
