Villa Corniole - 7 Pergole 2011
Pairing Suggestions
Lately I tasted some very nice red ones from North Italy. Tonight also a red one from Trentino.
Villa Corniole - 7 Pergole 2011 (87 tsomw points)
In the glass an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections.
On the nose intense aromas of currants, cherries and raspberries with hints of balsamico, flowers and spicyness.
On the palate dry, solid and balanced, with nice red fruit, acidity and soft tannins. Nice long aftertaste with balsamico hints.
Winemaker notes:
Grapes: Teroldego 100% (a Trentino autochthonous grape variety)
Vineyard location: Piana Rotaliana, in the Municipality of Mezzolombardo, at the Sette Pergole locality.
Soil type: Alluvial land?ll from the River Noce, highly fertile top soil with excellent drainage. Vine training system: Guyot and Trentino Pergola.
Vine training system: Guyot and Trentino Pergola.
Vini?cation: The grapes are handpicked, then selected and vini?ed in stainless steel tanks. The fermentation takes place with a 12-15 days maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature of 26/28 degrees then aged in barriques for about 18-24 months, then returned to stainless steel tanks for 2 years with a further 2 years in the bottle.
To be served at: 18°-20° C.
Characteristics: Intense ruby red color, tending to garnet on aging. Intense, fruity with raspberry and redcurrant notes, ample and re?ned, with spicy notes on the nose. Dry, with a strong personality, good sapidity and tannin taste with a light balsamic hint.
Food Pairing: A very elegant and structured full-bodied wine, which perfectly pairs the local cuisine, braised or roasted red meat, game, grilled meat and strong aged cheeses. A great meditation wine.
