Barone Ricasoli – Torricella Toscana 2015 (88 tsomw points)
In the glass a bright straw yellow color.
On the nose intense aromas of fresh citrus, mandarin, grapefruit with hints of vanilla, little spice and roasted nuts.
On the palate rich and complex, fresh and pleasant with spicy notes and hints of peach and apricot. Great and long final. This blend can be drunk fresh and direct, but it is also suitable for long ageing.
Winemaker notes:
Torricella, white wine rich in structure and complexity, enhances its personality with a Chardonnay and a Sauvignon blanc of Tuscan character. Fruit of a careful quality development both in the vineyard and in the cellars, this white wine is able to express the characteristics of a terroir often reputed for its famous "reds" only.
The Sauvignon blanc comes from a vineyard situated at 230 m a.s.l. on alluvial soil and the Chardonnay comes from an estate vineyard located at 460 m a.s.l. on sandy and pebbly soil.
Growing Season
The growing season 2014/2015 was quite regular without extreme events and full ripeness was reached 10 days earlier. These are the prerequisites of a great harvest in terms of quality and quantity. As usual, the harvest began with Chardonnay on August 31. The grapes were perfectly ripe and healthy. The Sauvignon Blanc was harvested immediately after.
Ageing: 9 months of aging in wood with skin contact for Chardonnay and 9 months in stainless steel for Sauvignon blanc.
