Barone Ricasoli - Astuto Blogheri Superiore 2012
Pairing Suggestions
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 20%, Petit Verdot 10%, Cabernet Franc 10%. In the glass a deep ruby ??color. In the nose strong aromas of violets, black currant and cherry, highlighted by hints of cedar and thyme. On the palate fruit tones and lush texture with a dry wine structure. Soft tannins are felt closer to the finish. A bouquet of red fruits and spices, fresh herbs and toasted vanilla. Top
This is a small production coming from Bolgheri region. This area is particularly suited for the production of high quality wines thanks to the vineyards position, facing the sea to the west and protected on the east by the Colline Metallifere.
Growing Season
The very rainy winter and spring with decidedly below average temperatures led to very slow plant development and gradual flowering, delayed by about ten days.
Summer featured average temperatures and no water stress for the plants, in part thanks to the abundant winter and spring rains. During the months of August and September, temperatures were never very high. From the second half of the month of September, the highs were already dropping while the temperature range during the nights was optimal. There was practically no rain during September and in October there were only two storms during the first ten days, which did not damage the quality of the late-ripening varieties. Harvesting began on 10 September, ten days later than average. The grapes were very healthy and the polyphenol and anthocyanin components were carefully brought to full development without risking withering or over ripeness. Average quantity and excellent quality, certainly one of our best vintages.
