Poderi Aldo Conterno
Il Favot Langhe Nebbiolo DOC 2012
Young, but pretty good. The wine had a very nose with rose petals, some tarry smoke, sweet red berry aromas and earthy herbs at the side.
The palate shows zesty orange acidity and a little dusting of fine tannins the first thing to grab you. Beyond that though, nice pure notes of red fruit littered with sprigs of herb and then some warm spice as the wine ends with a gentle finish.
SPECIES OF VINE: Nebbiolo, Michet and Lampia varieties.
VINEYARD: different vineyards in Bussia (Monforte d'Alba).
HARVEST: manual, with grapes selection in the vineyard.
TIME OF HARVEST: mid-October.
NOTES: the grapes used to make “ Il Favot” come from vineyards which have undergone periodical implantations, and so have a maximum age of 15 years. The skin soaking is limited to 6-8 days so to extract few tannins and more colour from the skins themselves, with the result of getting a well-coloured wine with a remarkable softness. The barrels (“barriques”) used are 100% made of new wood.
