Beaumont Des Crayères - Fleur De Prestige 2006 (88 tsomw points)
In 1955, a group of wine growers from the rolling countryside around Epernay founded Beaumont des Crayères Champagne in Mardeuil. With 85 hectares currently under vine in the very heart of Champagne, the house now markets approximately 600,000 bottles across the 5 continents with 70% of its Champagnes exported.
Three generations of member growers have tended to vineyards that are sometimes the size of a garden, both passionately and meticulously. This human dimension is a core component of Beaumont des Crayères Champagne. ‘Beaumont des Crayères' is the name of one of the finest vineyards in Mardeuil, the emblem of an outstanding terroir. ‘Beaumont' alludes to its hillside location, guaranteeing ideal exposure to sunshine and natural soil drainage. ‘Crayères' refers to the hallmark chalky subsoil of the finest Champagne vineyards.
Vines belonging to Beaumont des Crayères are firmly rooted in the hillsides around Epernay, in the heart of Champagne, right on the edge of the Marne valley.
50% chardonnay/ 40% pinot noir/ 10% meunier
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright golden color. The mousse is fine with consitent small bubbles.
On the nose intense aromas of peaches, pears, hazelnuts with hints of brioche and a little menthol and flowers.
On the palate dry and balanced with nice freshness and acidity with notes of apples, apricot, lemon and brioche. The finish is long with citrus hints.
This would pair great with lobster.
