Flashbacks to last week when I visited Catalunya. During my one week vacation I bought some nice wines and this one was one of my favourites.
AALTO was born in February 1999 when Mariano García - who had been Vega Sicilia's winemaking director for 30 years - and Javier Zaccagnini - for 6 years head of Ribera del Duero's Consejo Regulador - decided to join their expertise in a very special project: to make a wine that in a period of 15-20 years should reach the quality of the best wines in the world.
AALTO is the result of a extremely careful selection of grapes combined with expert winemaking. It is a high quality wine which they make every year, except when the climate hinders perfect grape ripening.
Tasting notes:
In the glass a dark purple red color.
The wine needs to open up for about 2 hours because of his youth.
On the nose delicate aromas of blackberries, cassis and cherries with hints of barrique, spices and vanilla.
On the palate dry, full-bodied showing strong tannins and complex aromas of dark red fruit, vanilla, chocolate, coffee and tobacco.
The finish is never ending with great power. It has all ingredients to age for lots of years and to get even better.
